Bible Verse of the Day

2 Peter 1:5-8

For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Blessings

Isaiah 40:3 A voice is calling, “Clear the way for the Lord in the wilderness; Make smooth in the desert a highway for our God

Last night I was feeling especially blessed by God and reveled in the wonder of it all. I know He is able to bless us in ways we cannot even imagine and yet, as I sat in awe of Him, I knew I needed to research and study more to more fully appreciate and understand the ‘God-ness’ of the blessings. So this, Friends, is the introduction post to say I know we will be blessed by the time and prayer we spend in learning more of His perspective on blessings. Let’s discover the depth and complexities awaiting us with an eager anticipation.

We read in Scripture about blessings but have you ever really given any thought to the vastness of the subject? I think we tend to limit our scope a bit. We say a ‘blessing’ over a meal, we say someone ‘blessed us’ if they bestowed a gift of some sort on us, we pray that God ‘blesses’ us but what do we really know about blessings?

Many believers have a special place, a quiet place where they go to spend time with the Lord. This is a very important thing. But how many believers have actually 'cleared the way' for the Lord as referenced in the scripture above? As sacred as that special quiet place is to us, it is limited. It has definite boundaries. But a way never ends–it goes on and on. The key of a life of blessing is not preparing God places to fill, but preparing a way for Him. The Hebrew word for way is 'derech'. Derech means a path, or a way of life.

If we want to be blessed, we need to prepare a derech in our lives. We need to develop Godly ways, Godly habits, Godly consistency and practices. We need to turn all our holy places into holy ways that carry on throughout our daily lives. The blessings of God need to flow through us to others around us– let's give Him a derech through which to do so.

I pray the Lord opens our spiritual eyes and hearts to the richness of ‘blessings’ and the wealth of godly insight we are accessing when we learn to become ‘one who blesses’, practicing the Biblical principle in our daily lives.

May you be blessed with grace and peace from God the Father and from our Lord Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for our sins, that He might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God our Father (Gal. 1:3-4, KJV).
