A beautiful sister in Christ, Keren Marinez, went home to
Jesus yesterday afternoon. Keren was the heart and soul of the Costa Rica
ministry with which we, Truth in Love World Ministry, have partnered. As the
local Costa Rican arm of U.S. Amen Ministry, Keren was the ‘planner/mover &
shaker’ that prepared for ministry teams going over. She led the wonderful
ladies that fed us and served with a smile that rivaled the Costa Rican sun.
John 10:28-30 I give them eternal life, and they shall
never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given
them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s
hand. I and the Father are one.”
On our last visit this past January, Keren was struggling with a physical condition
that restricted her mobility and participation. She was deeply saddened by
that, yet she greeted one and all with her smile and hugs. I have many pictures
of her lovely face but the picture that came to my mind when I got the news was
one of her sitting by a window inside watching the mission team celebrate outside. It is
not the most artistic of pictures but very poignant. It shows her desire and
determination to be with us. This picture came to mind because Keren was
trapped inside, looking out. Now she is no longer trapped in her earthen body
but free to dance and sing and celebrate in Heaven!
This beautiful servant spirit was also the mother of Susy,
Pablo and Ariana. All the children serve in the local church. Yes, they serve, not just receive. It is obvious by her fruit the impact this woman made with
her life. Her legacy lives on here just as she lives on for eternity.
This is not meant to be a eulogy. There are others much more
qualified than I to do that. All I know is Keren touched my heart when I first
met her in 2004. Her obvious love of the Lord dictated her dedication to
serving Him the best she could when whole and healthy and through physical adversity. She was Christian love personified. What higher
calling is there for which to aspire?
Till we meet again, sweet Keren.....
