Bible Verse of the Day

2 Peter 1:5-8

For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Open Heart

Psalms 139:23 Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:

Talking to people about God should be common in the life of a Christian Believer. Opportunities open up in our daily lives when as we walk out our faith. Years ago when I was still working in the corporate world, a co-worker came to me to say a young woman working as a temp employee asked if I was a Christian. She had heard me say things like, “hallelujah” and “praise God” in my every day conversations. This opened the door of opportunity for me to share with her. She had many questions and was looking for concrete answers.

It’s so typical of the human nature to want all our questions answered before we decide to make any commitments, isn’t it? We want proof that God is real and that the Bible is accurate. We want to know why sometimes those who call themselves Christians do awful things and how God could allow bad things happen to good people. These are common questions of people seeking with their literal minds. With all the complexities and facets of Jesus and His sacrifice, unbelievers and those young in the faith focus on questions regarding the most basic Biblical ideologies and almost always ask those same questions. Good news - God isn't intimidated by questions.

While the Bible provides answers and proofs to these questions through study and spiritual growth, some things just can’t be answered with our minds – they have to be answered with our hearts. The deepest faith doesn’t come by getting all our questions answered – it comes when we open our hearts to the Lord and invite Him to search it through and through.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s good to ask questions and be knowledgeable of our faith, but the fact of the matter is that there are some questions for we won’t find answers until we can see the Lord face to face and ask Him ourselves. In the original Hebrew and Greek Bible text, the word ‘faith’ is written ‘trust’ throughout. We must wait in faith and trust Him to provide those answers.

Regardless of whether we’re new believers, old believers or not yet believers at all, let’s all of us open our hearts to God today in faith and walk deeper in trust.
